Multi-ply

BUR — Built-Up Roofing (tar & gravel)

Tried and true, with the longest track record of any system. Its aggregate ballast reflects hot sun and resists erosion, while its solid structure resists punctures — a good choice for high-traffic areas needing foot traffic for HVAC maintenance. Multiple membrane plies are adhered with bitumen asphalt and surfaced with aggregate.

SBS Modified Bitumen

A close cousin of BUR that has stood the test of time. Puncture-resistant and suitable for walkable terraces on condos, apartments and offices. Installed by torch (economy), hot asphalt (safety) or peel-and-stick (accessibility). Generally two membrane plies with an aggregate-granule top for weather protection.

Single-ply

TPO & PVC

Lightweight systems ideal for re-roofing over an existing roof without removal — more economical, no heavy machinery, fast application. Built in-house and factory-approved before installation, and made of inorganic material so water can’t break them down. Resistant to animal fats and solvents, making them a good fit for restaurants and retail plazas.

EPDM

Similar in characteristics to TPO and PVC, consisting mainly of one rubber ply. It can be fully adhered, mechanically fastened, or loose-laid and weighted with ballast.

Fluid applied & green roofing

Hot Rubberized Asphalt

Built on site and applied to the deck in fluid form, then solidified into a seamless, monolithic membrane that resists leaks. No open flame is required — important where safety is a concern — and it bonds to many substrates including concrete, making it ideal for high-rise terraces and green-roof elements.

Green Roofing

Superior insulation that lowers summer cooling costs, high solar reflectivity, and environmental benefits for storm-water runoff, energy use and air quality — which is why Toronto enforces green-roof bylaws on many commercial buildings. Installed over a central waterproofing system with a root barrier and drainage layer.
